Location: Jaffa – Year of completion: 2019
Hotel Elmina (Arabic for “port”) is located in the heart of Jaffa, merely a few steps from the Clock Square and the Jaffa Port. It is an intimate 10-room boutique hotel in an ancient Ottoman building facing the Old City and the Mediterranean Sea. The overall look is both nostalgic and modern to make for an urban experience that combines oriental charm with European chic. The original arched windows, the flea market and the surrounding area were all direct sources of inspiration, evoking the colors, shapes, and sensations we used in our creative process, which included stone floors contrasted with colorful tiles, and Versailles parquet floors decorated with vibrant African rugs & textiles. The furniture, which is clean and modern in style, is integrated with works of art that are intense, saturated with colors and personal statements. All these, housed in an Ottoman building designated for preservation, come together to tell the eclectic story combining all of its unique elements. The hotel rooftop was designed in collaboration with architect and designer Ron Arad. To complement this design, the roof features furniture from Arad’s latest collection for Moroso.
